About Alan

Hey!  You found me, Congratulations!

Alan Finder (me) is an age-group triathlete originally from Kalamazoo, MI and is currently residing in Albany, NY.  I am a graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering specializing in Biomechanical Engineering and a minor in Spanish.

As a hockey player and weightlifter throughout childhood and high school, endurance sports did not feel natural to me when I started training for my first triathlon in 2007.  After placing 49th overall and 1st in the 15-19 Age Group in my triathlon debut, I saw steady improvements through consistent training and racing with the Michigan State Triathlon Club during college.  After many olympic distance triathlons on both the local and national level as well as two ventures to the American Triple T races, I completed Ironman Wisconsin 2011 in a time of 10:58:40.

Although much of my time is consumed with endurance sports, I pursue other interests when I am not swimming, biking, or running.  I enjoy hiking, camping, good food, beer, whiskey, travelling, and the occasional piece of fiction or biography; combining any of these activities makes each more enjoyable.

Additionally, I am the proud owner of a Chinchilla named Oscar, that little fur ball below.  But don't let the masculine name and gruff exterior fool you, Oscar is a female chinchilla with quite a soft spot for scratches under the chin and propensity for chewing on anything in sight.  Pictures of her will occasionally grace my blog posts to appeal to anyone not so interested in my multisport endeavors.
